Pienza is small but has an excellent selection for dining.
Pienza is small but has an excellent selection for dining. Sight seeing in town is somewhat limited but affords terrific views over Val d'Orcia. If you like Pecorino cheese, you have to visit the shops in Pienza. Quick bite, try Pizzeria Pummaro near gate into old center. For charm and quality meal try Pane Vino & Zucchero. For all round the Trattoria la Buca Delle Fate is good. For a good hike outside of town, don't stop at the spot where they shot the Gladiator scene, keep going.

Pienza has one main street which means it can feel crowded when a relatively small number of people visit. There is limited free parking which is also used by residents.
There are a variety of small shops which mostly sell typical regional products. There is an abundance of Pecorino and hams. It is possible to buy a range of different quality of jewelry. There are also a few clothes shops.
There is a beautiful panoramic walk on the entrance from the North.
The town is blessed with a variety of restaurants and bars which are mostly tradition Tuscan food. There are also at least two ice cream shops.
The market takes place on Friday. In October there are a number of events such as the chocolate festival which means it gets very crowded on the weekend. There are limited public services such as clean bathrooms.
I limited the amount of time that I visited the town during my week long stay mainly due to access to parking. You have to pay 24/7 which is a problem for evening meal when travelling alone in the dark at a parking meter.

We utilised Pienza as a base from which to explore various towns within the Val D'Orcia, a world heritage area. We could have stayed longer to visit more towns and explore mountain biking trails. Pienza in itself is clean, beautifully restored, has chic dining spots and it was a privilege to have visited.

Pienza is now one of our favourite destinations in Tuscany.
Pienza is now one of our favourite destinations in Tuscany. We have visited San Gimignano, Siena, Monteriggioni. Montepulcino whilst travelling by car and have found Pienza to be so pretty and enjoyable to be in. Parking was easy to navigate and the laneways of Pienza were quiet and so charming. The walkway/lookout side of the town provided vistas that you would hope for. Pienza is also quite close to those classic Tuscan scenes/photos that you may have seen previously.

I loved absolutely everything about this place.
I loved absolutely everything about this place. From location, to comfort, to the friendliest host (Tommaso) ever. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the Tuscan country side. It is close to Pienza and many other attractions and is just a gem of a place.
We stayed for three nights during our trip exploring Tuscany. Vento d'Orcia is a restored farmhouse and is situated in a working farm, about five minutes from Pienza. Great location to explore Val d'Orcia. The farmhouse was beautifully restored. Exceptional craftsmanship. Anna is a charming host, and I strongly suggest you have dinner at the farm at least one night of your stay. She prepares dinner using local and seasonal ingredients. The breakfast was very nice as well!
Absolutely great place! The best stay in our 2 week journey across Italy. Everything was just perfect! Dinner in the garden overlooking sunset was unforgettable. Views are fantastic! May be just one thing - breacfast basket contained only some "plastic" food, nothing local, in my opinion it is better not to serve it at all, because everyone travelling in Tuscany have bags full of fresh Tuscany food right from market, so it was a bit unnecessary.
Absolutely enchanting stay at GARAGE47 in Pienza! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views and the warm welcome from the staff. The room was a perfect blend of comfort and elegance, offering a peaceful retreat after exploring the beautiful surroundings. The attention to detail in every aspect of their service truly made our experience unforgettable. Highly recommend this gem for anyone visiting the area!
The property is located in the heart of Tuscany at a beautiful hill top minutes to a charming little town Pienza. The Agriturismo itself has a gorgeous garden that was perfect for lounging. The items included in the breakfast basket is sufficient for a quick meal in the morning. One can find plenty of nice restaurants in Pienza with good value. It’s also within driving distance to many Tuscan winery.
what a place! we had incredible two nights here. Beautiful panoramic views over the val d'orcia facing the sunset. The whole team was very welcoming and kind but the real discovery was the dinner in the restaurant - it was incredible! one of the best food experience we had during our 2 weeks trip in Italy. we would definitely come back again
We stayed one night, it’s such a lovely B&B, a favourite of our time in Italy. We particularly enjoyed the terrace with amazing views and the breakfast was delicious. It was extremely clean and well looked after and the host was so genuine and kind. We had everything we needed and wished we could have stayed longer.
Hotel is located just outside the old centre of Pienza. Two minutes walk to the old centre, and a good base to visit cities like Montepulciano and Montalcino by car. Excellent breakfast, it's lovely to sit on the terrace while the sun shines and the birds sing. Free parking. Clean rooms. Airconditioning.
The property is wonderful with gorgeous views of Val d'Orcia all around you. Perfectly located about 20 minutes outside of Pienza. The host, Tommasso, is awesome and catered to our every need. He even checked the tire pressure in our rental car for us. 5/5 stars. Cannot recommend enough!
I liked having a separate private entrance to the room. It was a great location for everything in Pienza. The host was great and very communicative during our stay, and the employee who checked us in gave us a lot of recommendations. The room was huge, and having a table was a big plus.
Loved this place, nice agriturismo in the Tuscany countryside, just minutes away from Pienza by car, close to some of the best views in Tuscany. The breakfast basket every morning was such a nice touch. Great pool and quiet, beautiful property. Great local wine for sale as well.
La Corte Antica was beautifully appointed and super clean. It had everything we needed and more. It is located in the heart of Pienza so we could walk to everything and walk to the beautiful views of Val D'Orcia. The owners were very friendly and open.
Highly recommend!
Beautiful tuscan hotel with its own olive plantation and a restaurant that makes delicious pici aglione and the best pumpkin soup. It was very central and was our base to explore Tuscany with visits to Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, La white Balena, Val dorcia etc.
Everything! The staff was exceptional, inviting and attentive to our needs. The hospitality was superb! The dinner experience was one our favorite evenings in Italy! And the view, oh my, most exquisite! Would come back in a heartbeat.
The location was right by the main town square which was perfect. The restaurant at the hotel was fantastic, and the included breakfast in the morning was great. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
The hotel room was clean and tidy, and its staff is very kind. The hotel is located just near Pienza City Center. I will stay again when I or my family come to Pianza again. Strongly recommend!!
Best location ever for a quiet serene and beautiful view from the rooms and the pool. Close to Pienza which is amazing, but you need a car definitely. Steep hills all around
Fantastic place to stay in Tuscany! Everything was wonderful and a great location to all the lovely wineries. Walking distance to Pienza which was great.
