Historic border town with easy access to surrounding scenic areas and towns.
A good selection of independent shops and restaurants. Good views over the Wye valley and a small friendly theatre. Relatively unspoilt.

Rather disappointed.
Rather disappointed. Town looked tired and had seen better days. Difficult to walk along the river for all the bushes. Having said that, it did rain every day and nowhere looks good unless the sun shines

Lovely little town with fascinating architecture and some wonderful views over the River Wye and the valley. The locals were very welcoming. We went in to the church, and although a service was just about to start the vicar went out of his way to make us welcome.
Two things stand out, the exceptional food - both evening meals and breakfast and the friendly, professional service. Perhaps the owners would disagree, but I would call this a "restaurant with rooms" since dining is the centerpiece of staying here. The rooms are clean, but small, but fine for a short stay of one or two nights. The hotel is a short drive from Ross on Wye town center or a 15 minute walk mostly by the river.
The innkeeper Andy and his wife Sophie were very kind and accommodating- they allowed my mum and her dog to join me on short notice for the second night of my stay, and were present on both arrival and departure to help with the tight parking situation - in the rain no less! Very kind people taking good care of their guests. Sophie's breakfasts were fab as were the nearby nature walks.
Orles Barn is an exceptional hotel. Roxy and Matt are the nicest, kindest people you will ever meet. The food (Matt is the chef) is quite simply the best I've tasted in any hotel anywhere! You will be treated like royalty at the hands of Roxy, who is such a warm and genuine person. I LOVE staying here and cannot recommend Orles Barn highly enough.
Great location in town. View from the bar terrace is beautiful, yet you're so close to the town centre.
We had a superior room and it was very large, good sized ensuite too.
The hotel building is full of character and original features.
Excellent breakfast and selection of food.
Staff all gave excellent service, very welcoming and friendly
A warm welcome on arrival,
the accommodation is
excellent. The breakfast
menu is second to none. The
quality, presentation, and
service is also excellent.
Lovely garden setting and
maintained to a high level.
Great outdoor sitting areas
Within easy walking distance
of the town centre along the
bank of the River Wye.
Plenty of on site parking.
It's quirky, so if the thought of a Premier Inn makes you shudder, you'll be delighted here. The rooms are unique and interestingly furnished, which is in keeping with a B&B that's the oldest building in Ross and former court house. The owner is around if you need anything but nobody will disturb you otherwise. There's a delightful garden too.
Accommodation was fine, just what we were expecting. Would have liked to know about the road closure, all the signs were saying business open as usual, not knowing where the hotel was compared to the road closure, we had a very disgruntled local saying we shouldn't be at the closure. The detour was not good for a small sports car.
Excellent breakfast and very nice dinning room. Great service by friendly staff. Didn't stay for dinner because I was visiting a friend in Ross each evening. Would definitely recommend the Castle Lodge, very welcoming hosts, excellent value, great facilities and conveniently situated to Ross on Wye.
The location was perfect for exploring Symonds Yat, Ross on Wye, Forest of Dean and surrounding area. The cottage was a very comfortable, relaxing retreat, exceptionally dog friendly. The artwork and sculptures at the Gallery are wonderful as is the hot chocolate and lemon drizzle cake.
Full of character hotel. Family run and very friendly & welcoming. Room & Bed really comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty - had the full English each day. Wilton was lovely and a 10 minute river walk to Ross On Wye. A perfect stay and lovely weekend.
Fabulous hosts with a warm welcome. Perfectly located within easy walking distance to the the town centre, great selection for breakfast. Great room with super-comfortable bed. Pet friendly with wonderful large gardens and riverside pub across the road.
Breakfast was excellent felt sorry for the staff having to run up and down stairs serving food. Location was very good as the town 300 yards away just as it was uphill from hotel other than that position great also over looking the river.
Absolutely loved our stay, hotel, room was spotless. Views from the balcony were amazing. All the staff were really friendly and the food served was great. The breakfast first class loads to choice from, will definitively return
Fantastic location, right in the town centre, walking distance to shops / bars / river etc. Ritchie was very communicative and responsive. The accommodation had everything you needed and was very quaint.
Very old building. Has its charm. Clean, comfortable bed, friendly staff, nice bar. On site parking area, but you will need good driving skills to get inside, very tight entrance.
