The room was lovely and overlooked the gardens. I was upgraded to a double room and so was pleased to have the extra space and larger bed.
The breakfast was lovely and much enjoyed. There is a lovely lounge which we were able to sit in during the evenings away from the bar and have a few nightcaps

Durham could definitely be one of those towns that appear in fairy tales and stories of kings and knights. Lying on a hilled peninsula formed by the Wear River, the striking cathedral overlooks from the hilltop, surrounded by the castle, palaces and historic buildings. Get transported back in time by the magic of this English jewel, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Though archaeological evidence suggests the area has been inhabited since 2000 BC, the present-day settlement was founded by monks from Lindisfarne in 995, choosing the area as the final resting place of Saint Cuthbert. Symeon of Durham stated once that ‘to see Durham is to see the English Zion, and by doing so one may save oneself a trip to Jerusalem’. Hotels and B&Bs in Durham’s historic centre are a popular choice to enjoy this historic legacy.
Its powerful religious position granted such great honour to the city, that the bishop still holds the rights to a seat in the House of Lords, and to accompany the sovereign at the coronation. During the 19th century and encompassing the industrial revolution, the university was founded, with Durham Castle becoming its first college.

Durham is a great city with lots of great places to eat.
Durham is a great city with lots of great places to eat. The Beamish museum is a short car journey away and is a great family day out. The cathedral and castle are an amazing visit to Durham's past. Expect to do a lot of walking, and most of it uphill. Durham like most historic city's has beautiful cobbled streets so good comfortable shoes are recommended.

Durham offers something for everyone.
Durham offers something for everyone. Even more for those who wish to explore the historic castle and Cathedral and surrounding streets. The city offers a comprehensive range of food and restaurants. It is accessible by road and rail.
If you find steep streets challenging there are still plenty of places to pause and browse or rest and eat or drink.
It is a beautiful city to visit.

A lot of pubs where the students go were scruffy and uninviting ( ripped furniture etc). Loved the areas around the cathedral, castle, town square and the river. Tour of castle was limited to 4 areas due to students living in the castle which we were not informed about when we purchased tickets. Thought it was a total waste of time going.
Some nice places to eat such as the Spice Lounge just off the square,Turkish kitchen near the cathedral and the Boat Club near the river.

I loved Durham. I did a tour of the Cathedral and Castle. I felt very safe being on my own and people I did speak to were very chatty.
It was very peaceful walking along the river.
There did seem to be an awful lot of Church's,
I attended the Easter Service at the Cathedral, it was lovely. The choir had 30 children and 11 adults in it. The volunteers were very good.
I would like to come again soon.
I stayed at the Kingslodge Inn, and ate there and at an Indian Restaurant Alishan. The food was delicious.

Very welcoming at reception, found room to be clean, spacious and double bed very comfortable. Main road runs past our room and we didn't have any noise disturbance and had a great nights sleep. I enjoy leaving the car at home and this hotel is on a bus route between Durham and Bishop Auckland. The X21 bus goes through Durham to Chester le Street and Newcastle. Would have liked to dine at the adjoining Indian Restaurant but didn't get the opportunity on this occasion.
I spent 2 weeks at The City Hotel and really enjoyed my stay. The room was very spacious and beautifully decorated, with a large bathroom, everything in very good condition and very clean. The staff is exceptionally nice: manager and housekeeping person were always ready to help me and treated me very well. The location is perfect; right in the centre of Durham, and a short walking distance to Durham University. Wifi works well. Fully recommend.
The property is a short distance from Durham city centre and there is a supermarket opposite. The owners / managers were very professional and very kind allowing me to stay after the check out time as I had an online work meeting scheduled that day at short notice. The breakfast was very nice and the place is clean. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean and reasonable priced place to stay when visiting Durham.
Our one-night stay at Hotel Indigo in Durham was a pleasure from start to finish. The hotel's welcoming atmosphere and prime location immediately stood out to us. The charming, cosy room made for a comfortable night's sleep while the beautiful restaurant served up a satisfying breakfast to start our day. We highly recommend Hotel Indigo to anyone looking for a friendly and conveniently located hotel in Durham
All rooms are different design and character. I liked it. Convenient location. A lot of public footpaths. 8 minutes drive to Durham University. Breakfast was lovely and so the dinner. It’s busy over weekends, therefore advisable to book in advance. Staff is friendly. A big bonus that it’s dog friendly hotel. I will be coming only here to visit my son in the uni.
The hotel is in a great location, close to the city centre and the train station, and within walking distance of several cafes, pubs, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, and the main sights. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and staff were efficient and helpful. There was a good range of continental and cooked options for breakfast each morning.
Quiet location, little bit out of city centre but good transport links and walkable. Loved the apartment, warm and cosy but plenty of space and good facilities. I felt like I could really relax there after exploring Durham and nearby places during the day. Would definitely book it again.
Beautiful location to meet family and friends, massive hotel, like a maze.
Lots of facilities and grounds to walk round with the dog.
Room and large bed very clean and attention to detail all professionally finished.
Food excellent BUT see below (dislikes)
The room was comfortable, well equipped and clean. The Continental breakfast was diverse, tasty and well presented. The pub is a short and pleasant riverside walk from Durham city centre and is also served by a pretty frequent bus service into Durham.

Our stay at Ushaw Historic House Hotel was simply amazing! The setting is stunning, the staff welcoming, and the breakfast exceptional. Highly recommended for a delightful getaway!
We were virtually first in for breakfast and the range of foods was excellent, the room was spacious and beds were cosy, ideal location to walk in to the centre of Durham
A bit of a wander from Durham City centre's train station, but pleasant enough.
Good breakfast.
Great helpful and cheery staff and welcoming friendly public house.
great location, close enough to the city but far enough away for peace and quiet. Great place just behind the hotel to walk the dog and a fantastic breakfast.
