The old town where the many restaurants and shops reside is 5 or 10 minutes walk from the train station. The Maison 26 family owned hotel was outstanding. The old town is very walkable and beautiful. Ravenna was better than I expected. We arrived by cruise ship and instead of rushing off to another city (Venice or Bologna) we chose to spend one night in Ravenna. Accomodations were near the train station and the historic churches and sites. Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic. The city allows you to visit the museum of Alighieri Dante, one of the most important poet in Italy's culture. Also you can visit the Dante Alighieri's tomb. Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit. It's easy to get around the town center and there are a lot of places to eat--across all price ranges. So many beautiful mosaics. It's worth taking a tour for these. We did a guided tour with Silvia Giogoli at guidaravenna.com and it was worth the cost. She is so knowledgable about the history of the city and the mosaics in particular. Really gives you a better appreciation of the art. If they block the guide's name and website, it was the guided walking tour offered via the booking site called Mosaic Tiles Guided Tour.

Great to see the mosaics and Dante's tomb. All the mosaics within walking distance. Excellent restaurants. Good to have a look around the harbour and stroll along the beach. Excellent train connection to Bologna. It is worthwhile to just walk in a meaningless way to enjoy the city and its people. The people are very friendly and very helpful.
