Historic, colorful town with lots of fabulous restaurants (...
Historic, colorful town with lots of fabulous restaurants (I'm vegan and had no trouble finding many places that were entirely so with exciting menus using local ingredients and sauces). Our favorite was Hierba Dulce but also several other great ones, Herbivora, Veriditas Cocina Vegana). Street scene was always exciting with lots of art (get the graphics passport at one of the gallery/ workshops; get it stamped at each one to get a discount. It comes with a map). We saw several street parades with live bands and giant animated figures in celebration of weddings and graduations. Botanical garden was beautiful but the tour was tedious, with little useful information (but I'm a botanist and I would have preferred to walk around without 40 other people). Monte Alban is magnificent archeological site not far from town. It has excellent signage. Poke around on your own and take your camera. Beware of vendors selling "artifacts that they found in their corn field"-- surely fakes and it's illegal to take real artifacts out of the country.

City is beautiful but overrated.
City is beautiful but overrated. It depends on what else in south you have seen? We have been to other parts of Mexico, Peru, Colombia…Food quality and menus seem overhyped too. I often found myself chewing on corn…

We loved the authenticy of this city. Not a lot of tourists.
We loved the authenticy of this city. Not a lot of tourists. Learn some basic spanish and have google translate at the ready. the food and art is the best part of this city. Outstanding food and Mezcal. Great shopping for all pricepoints. Quality textiles. We came in early April and it was quite hot by mid day but if you walk on the shady side of the street and bring lots of water you will be OK. It cools down to be toterable in the early evening. Alway felt safe and the local people are friendly but not in your face trying to sell you trinkets. It is a relatively clean city and lots of people out and about. The Saturday night life was great. people were out having fun until almost 4 am! I would not recommend staying in the front room of any hotels as the road noise can be loud with lots of buses rubling down the narrow main streets.
Highly reccomend the baked goods at boulent blanc hotel bakery and lunch st LOS Danzantes.( get the mole sampler as an appetizer, you will be blown away by flavor, get extra plantain dumplings and its a meal!
Enjoy a wonderful week in this fabulous city.

Regardless of your interests, there is something here for everyone. We stayed a week and saw ruins, textile artisans, ate well, visited areas of interest and didn't even scratch the surface. Oh, and the food is fabulous.

Since we couldn’t find a large enough vehicle to drive us to the center (Zocalo) We walked from the bus station to the center (Zocalo) with our luggage. I believe it was a 45 min walk. I was amazed that we felt safe walking the streets of Oaxaca with our luggage on hand! Didn’t even get the awkward stare (which I would have done if I’d see some tourists walking with their luggage lol) Oaxaca felt safe to walk the streets. The food, the atmosphere, the culture, the people and other tourist made this experience a very unforgettable experience. We fell in love with Oaxaca! We will be visiting more often.
This was my second stay at this place and I would come back again and again, wonderful and cozy area with lots of places where you can retire. Very caring and polite workers and hostess. And the view from the window will be in my best dreams. A very beautiful street, along which you can go to the very center; there is a grocery store right opposite the stairs from the hotel. My daughter and I stayed for a week this time, but that was not enough to enjoy this place and the city. Thank you very much for your attention and hospitality.
There is no breakfast at the hotel only a sad little coffee bar. No worries. There is abundance of excellent coffee and breakfast options an easy walk away. The location is the best thing, next to the Plaza de San Dominico with all the shops, restaurants and happenings, yet on a relativley quiet street. Staff was pleasant and professional. There is a lovely roof deck and the ambiance is clean with old world charm.
The best part of staying here was the breakfast provided. As a solo traveller, it was nice to have the central open air dining area to come to in the morning and have the option to meet others staying at the B&B during breakfast.
Location was also very good and walking distance to main areas in Oaxaca City. Liked the extra touch of providing a hat and a local reusable bag in each room.
The hotel is beautiful but a little aged however so is Oaxaca city! They have a great restaurant and breakfast buffet with fresh made tortillas and quesadillas station and a little of everything you could want to try a Oaxacan breakfast. I liked sitting by the pool and the staff, especially the doormen were great help in finding taxis and other transportation for trips around Oaxaca.
The hotel is in the heart of Oaxaca City - located close to the zocalo, many markets, cathedrals, shops and museums. The staff was very friendly, helpful and observant. They even celebrated my birthday with a birthday cake, song and decorated our roomm. The holiday (Dia de los Muertos) decorations were very charming. The breakfast is nice and located in the quiet interior courtyard.
Hidden gem in the hear of the city.
Excellent, must-to-stay there boutique hotel.
Beautiful courtyard, fresh refurbished rooms, and huge, a la 5 star hotel bathroom is a firm mark of this place.
Very good breakfast, with excellent display, a huge variety of available food, and a proper table setting.
We will go back to this hotel.
The concierge/front desk staff were amazing. we had a few questions throughout our stay and they were always happy to help, even called vendors on our behalf as we don’t speak Spanish. The hotel is in a great location, very close the main square, market, and lots of restaurants & food stalls. The best shower so far in our travels.
Great boutique hotel in the middle of Oaxaca Centro, walking distance to pretty much everything. Loved the artwork and free arrival and departure gifts - thank you! Staff were exceptional and really went out of their way to make you feel at home. Would certainly return! ps Oaxacan coffee at breakfast was a great start to the day!
The hotel's room is cozy and clean when we arrive; it is the place we are looking for, with few guests, and the location is excellent, a nice spot in the center of Oaxaca City. The owner was friendly and kind; she gave us many recommendations about tour guides and private taxis; we enjoyed our stay in Casa Olié.
The best part about the property is a location. It is very central and close to everything. The look of the property as exactly as described and expected. it is hard to find hotel with safe parking there and the fact that this hotel had it and it was free was awesome.
It is the best location in Oaxaca city. The inner courtyard , kitchen, roof, and rooms are beautifully designed with green pottery, tile work, plants. Nightly turn down service was a lovely touch. The staff could not have been nicer. Erica, Ale, Aldo, and everyone.
Hands down one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in anywhere in the world. Stylish rooms, beautiful rooftop to sit and chill/or work from, yummy breakfast and evening tapas. And the downstairs restaurant is yum. I’ll always stay in this hotel if I come to Oaxaca.
This is a gorgeous boutique style hotel in a great location. We were able to walk everywhere. The room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was basic but fine. The staff were very helpful and there is a nice restaurant and pool area.
this hotel was a gem. everything from location, to design, cleanliness, service,, breakfast, vibe hit the spot
it was the best of both worlds: the warmth of a home and the luxury of a hotel - they were very accommodating. highly recommend
Beautiful boutique hotel which made you feel happy as soon as you crossed the threshold. It was adorned in colourful plants and frescos. The room was basic and clean. The staff were charming and friendly
Love this hotel. Its like a mini retreat from the hustle of Oaxaca City. I stayed in Centro near Zocolo twice and the noise and fumes get intense. The view of the city from these rooms is incredible.
The building is beautiful, the hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming, the hotel food was by far the best we’ve ever had. The breakfast was genuinely authentic and incredible.
Lovely boutique hotel with friendly staff. A/C, lovely bathroom supplies included, comfortable bed.great location - walking distance to everything in the town.
