We liked being so close to the water and having the convenience of a bar and restaurant in our hotel. In the morning, we enjoyed watching people kayak and swim along the shore, and then walked up the steep hill to eat breakfast in another inn just for something different. Upon checkout, a kind hotel employee drove his Range Rover up the steep hill in front of us. That helped to relieve all the stress of driving our underpowered stick-shift rental car up the steep narrow drive while imagining another car coming down the hill towards us. Once we were on our way, we drove to nearby Hartland Point and after walking around the shops and restaurants where we purchased a wonderful book called The Salt Path: A Memoir by local author Raynor Winn (highly recommend it), we spent several hours hiking the gorgeous SW Coast Path. That was one of our best experiences.

Lovely stay.
The bathroom is very spacious, with a nice bath and is squeaky clean.
The room is very cosy with a biscuits and tea set.
Breakfast was great, and it was lovely to talk to the hosts and get the know them.
Location perfect to explore the area

The village is a living museum which is charming and I love the ethos. However, this comes with an understanding of leaving your car at the top of the hill and carrying luggage to and from your hotel.
The hill ensures a good workout for your quads and it is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Clovelly is a historical "one off".
Clovelly is a historical "one off". However to visit one must be fairly active as the way down to and through the village is steeply downhill and cobbled, slippery when wet. The visitor centre at the top of the village will give you some really good information about what to see and do and I recommend watching the film on the village in the centre. It will also relieve you of £8.75 per adult to visit, though free if you stay over!!

Clovelly is a picture-postcard place, very interesting to visit. We stayed 2 nights at the New Inn which was good, allowed us to see and do everything. Food and drink is quite expensive, you will need good walking shoes to get about as the high street is very steep (not sandals as some people were wearing), not really suitable for very young children or frail adults. The formal gardens are excellent, as are the craft workshops. Breathtaking views at various points. Good visitor centre with informative video of the village.

Lovely little village.
Lovely little village. Very very steep but well worth the climb. Went middle October and some places were closed. Two pubs in the village and I recommend eating in the New Inn and also the Cottage tea rooms. The staff at both are very welcoming and the foods very good.

My favourite places in Clovelly village were the New Inn hotel Friendly locals ,walks and stunning views every where.
We eat in the new Inn food and service was excellent.
Access is easy around Clovelly and exciting not knowing what's around the next corner.
Stayed at the new inn at the end of our honeymoon. Cannot praise the hotel enough or the staff who work there . We were made to feel special and nothing was to much trouble. The young chap even put queen music on in the evening while having our food. They even went the extra mile and gave us a bottle of complimentary Prosecco. The hotel has a lovely Homely feel and compliments he lovely village of Clovelly. Really recommend staying here you will not be disappointed. A proper little Gem .
Clovelly is a destination, with historic streetscape, structures, compact gardens, and hillsides and sea. Outstanding walking experiences. Our room had a balcony with a view to opposite streetscape and hillsides and a peek-a-boo down the street to the sea. Room had a compact bath and bedroom with a non-working fireplace and some character ceiling under the main roof. Very good full cooked breakfast with yogurt or cereal starters if you like in a character-filled room.
Beautiful, spotlessly clean and very comfortable bedroom with stunning countryside and sea views! Helen and Brian have created a home away from home for guests and their hospitality is second to none! A very delicious cooked breakfast served in the morning with plenty of continental options available too. Great base to explore the Hartland peninsula, Clovelly etc. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Good value for money. Great location for day trips. This particular resort ( main hotel/reception area) is a bit dated but this did not affect our enjoyment as the kids loved the outdoor play area, the forest, pool and Battle Blasters. 20 minute drive to Westward Ho which is amazing. Great beach for walking , rock pooling and crabbing. Fun arcades for the kids and mini golf. Bonus…weather treated us well.
Exceptional location and a lovely place to wake up and greet the day. Excellent bars on site and sensational restaurant. Appreciated being able to park on-site and enjoyed the steep drive down the hill to the hotel. A super location from which to climb the cobblestones and explore the village above. Other guests appeared relaxed and this enhanced our experience.
Expertly decorated room & hotel. Lots of small expensive touches to décor with importance to detail a factor. Thick, cosy curtains an example & slate for room service. View of harbour was lovely & great breakfast was cooked to order. Can book a formal restaurant meal or sit in the " snug " & have a cheaper less formal meal. Parking an essential right next to hotel.
Welcoming, helpful and attentive to your requirements.
Breakfast was delicious with homemade jam and freshly laid eggs on the menu.
The room and beds were very comfortable with en suite bathroom and a fridge which was great for essentials.
Close to Clovelly can walk or a few minutes in the car.
The location was perfect, in the middle of the village. I arrived in the dark, and it was a steep walk down the cobbled path to the hotel, but i was helped by the local villagers to find the way. Very authentic hotel , and a great little bar area. Really warm and cosy in the bedroom.
Lovely pub. Food was excellent with great breakfast. The staff was really wonderful ( especially Amy). Even though Clovelly itself is a challenge we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights stay.
