Windermere is very small and pretty, but you're better off going to Bowness if you want all that *plus* the views. Windermere was quieter than Bowness though, which makes it a great place to stay over if you're travelling to more touristy places nearby in the daytime. There is an amazing gift shop in Windermere on the corner, and the Tapas restaurant looked great, even though we didn't get time to eat there. The park on Park Road was lovely for dogs and kids, and big enough to have a proper walk around.

An average selection of shops and bars/restaurants.
An average selection of shops and bars/restaurants. Bowness-on-Windermere is approx 1 mile away, this has a better choice of bars/shops/restaurants. The bus station in Windermere is located near the main road entrance. Bus trips are currently £2 per person each way (April 2024) and we decided to travel by bus to Keswick and enjoy the stunning scenery, and no expensive parking charges. Will definitely be going back to Windermere.

I have fallen in love of Windermere.
I have fallen in love of Windermere. I love hiking and nature and this place have everything you need to hike for days, do cycling and much more. Ideal for solo travelers or to visit with family and dogs. I will probably repeat the experience but in summer as some trails are better done with sun conditions /dry paths. There are lots of nice places and different restaurants in Bowness with fantastic food to enjoy. I would really recommend Windermere and closer villages like Grasmere / Ambleside for anyone wanting to spend some days surrounded by nature.

First of all do not book this property with breakfast included. You basically just pay too much for toast and butter! Nearby town has very nice cafes. Also make sure your room is not damped like our’s was! It was unbelievable!
They never cleaned our room and had to ask four times for fresh towels! The location is very nice but unfortunately the quality of the hotel has dropped significantly since last time we stayed in it! It was a huge disappointment.

Visiting the lake and taking trips around it on boats was fun. There are a lot of restaurants and bars to visit.
Apart from visiting the lake and eating out at restaurants there isn't that much to to do.

Windermere is a beautiful place very picturesque and plenty to enjoy on your stay I could highly recommend a walk into Bo'ness and having a look around the many shops on offer the church in particular is a peaceful place, then if your after a good pint the whole in the wall offers a high standard of pint 😀
The location itself is excellent, in the Lake District, close to Bowness on Windermere, and walks out the backdoor to Brant Fell and others. The Oaks itself is so relaxing, quality furnishings, fabulous kitchen with four ovens... and dining area, numerous lounge rooms so everyone can find their own space if they wish to, so no one on top of each other. The bedrooms with en suite showers and toilets were just perfect. I would not hesitate to book again and return.
And then of course there was the view...
The reception and hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Comfortable room with excellent bathroom. The swimming pool and sauna are a great addition and easy to reserve a space. The breakfast is fantastic with a range of pastries to start and various choices for breakfast (the Cumbrian full breakfast is brilliant) The coffee and fresh orange is fresh and tastes amazing. Amazing views overlooking Windermere area.

He always had time for you to chat about the best restaurants etc .Very enjoyable stay definitely stay again. Rooms very comfortable clean . The place is situated in a perfect spot right in the middle of Windermere.
The property was very clean and cozy, the breakfast and the homemade cakes were amazing. The location is great since it is close to the Windermere railway station and bus stops, so it was convenient to travel around the Lake District; also walking distance to Bowness. Overall a great stay!
Lovely hotel. The staff were really nice and friendly. We brought out Labrador with us and she was made really welcome, they even made her sausages for breakfast!
Hotel rooms were really clean, rooms was a good size and the location was perfect for Windermere and Bowness on Windermere.

The spa. Well worth staying at the hotel and paying for it. The corridors are a little dated but the rooms are fantastic. Great location….very close to Windermere and Ambleside/Bowness.
Good location in Windermere and walking distance to Bowness for the lake. The room with bathroom and walk-in cupboard were a good size with a very comfortable king-size bed.
Fantastic location and very good value for money even considering the hotel could do with a refit/uplift, charming original building and really enjoyed my stay.
The cottage is within easy walking distance of Windermere, which is absolutely lovely. The cottage is cost and well equipped. we enjoyed a wonderful stay.
