Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years.
Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years. There are no know written records of who built it, what it was used for or the part it played in Inca history. The guides are totally speculative. They have good stories..... but completely from their imagination. Do your homework and prepare for the visit.

It might seem almost heretical to not give MP top marks and to admit I planned too much time there, but it is really only the sanctuary that is worth the visit (for me). Had I been up to the mountain climb then another day would have been worth it. It is probably best to arrive the night before, get up early to visit in the morning, then leave after lunch.
Overall, I may have been slightly underwhelmed as it was a rubbish day, overcast and a bit drizzly so the views were less than ideal. Also even taking the bus up to the sanctuary there is still al lot of climbing and at that altitude...!
Found this hotel while planning a trip to Machu Picchu for my boyfriend's birthday, and it was magical! Not too far off the main square in Aguas Calientes, and it felt like we were the only people there. We booked the room all the way at the top with the balcony, which was a litte extra, and worth every penny. We were very pleased with the stay. The staff was responsive and helpful, and breakfast in the morning was great. It was exactly what we needed for an intimate getaway spot, and I would return without hesitation.
- Bigest room we had in all Peru, with an amazing view on the mountains
- 3 minutes away from the bus stop to Machu Picchu, 1 from the train station, 1 from the market et 3 from all the restaurants
- Very clean with comfortable beds
- People were amazing to help us. They keep our backpack while we were at the Machu Picchu and they prepared us a breakfast to go before the opening hour.
- A special thanks to John and Alberto, the managers of the hotel who were very kind to guide us.
This hotel is very pleasant for a stay in Aquas Calientes. They pick you up from the train station and walk you to the hotel (with umbrellas, if it's pouring!). They provide you with great information about Machu Picchu, and don't try to upsell any guiding/services. The breakfast is very good value- you can customize based on eating preferences. The hotel is very convenient to the Thermal Baths, and not far from the main heart of Aquas Calientes.
Staff was wonderful, it’s a friendly atmosphere. There were not many guests when we stayed there, so everything was quiet. If you’ve never been to Machu Picchu Pueblo, you’ll probably expect this hotel to be more spacious according to pictures and you’ll be surprised with the surroundings, but everything is like that on MP Pueblo, it has its charm. Breakfast was humble, but the gentleman who served us made us the eggs as we like.
Bruno is very friendly and assisting. He always there to help his guests. The room is pretty decent and I had a good sleep. There is free tea and coffee at the lobby. The location is superb, very close to the hot spring and main plaza and church. The hotel welcomed me with a very nice graphic of Machu Picchu and a key chain. The room is clean and the bed is the best bed I've ever had. Thanks so much Bruno!
Fantastic quirky hotel on the edge of the main square. Excellent location for everything in Aguas Calientes, bars, restaurants, MP bus and station. Rooms were large, clean with balcony and really good shower. Breakfast served from 5am to suit travellers to MP with fruit, breads, eggs, juices, cereals and hot drinks. Staff friendly and efficient couldn’t do enough to please their guests.
Everything. The breakfast, the staff, the showers were consistently hot, very comfortable beds. And the bonus little animal shapes they folded the towels! We had an early morning bus an hour before breakfast was to start and they made us breakfasts to go. If I could give this hotel 15/10 I would. Great location, beautiful stunning view of Aguas calientes!
The hotel's prime location is nothing short of amazing, especially for travel enthusiasts. Nestled conveniently close to the train station, it effortlessly combines comfort with accessibility. The mere proximity to the station makes exploring the city a breeze, allowing guests to embark on exciting adventures with ease.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Someone met us at the train station to guide us to the hotel. We were able to leave our backpacks at the hotel while we explored Machu Picchu. Location was great, next to the river and away from the noise of the trains and main square, yet within easy walking of everything.
Excellent location. For the train station to Cusco and the buses that go for Machupicchu. All within a minute of walking distance.
Well maintained hotel.
Everything is at your grip.
Free storage of luggages when you travel to Machupicchu.
Carlos is a great nice host, knows everything about Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu and his hotel is impeccable. Really value for money and you have the sense you are supporting a local guy who deserves it. Highly recommended.
Excellent location near station, bus stop, shops, restaurants etc. great breakfast on 7th floor with Mountain Views. Reece went above and beyond to help and serve and he came to the station to walk us to the hotel.
The kind reception lady managed to check us in early as we were quite sick and tired from Inca Trail. Hotel is easy to spot. Nice balcony view. Was the only breakfast hotel buffet in my Peru trip that had BACON!
Very nice location, close to the train stop, train departure as well as to the bus stop to Machu Picchu. All restaurants at less than 1 to 5 min walk.
Good hotel to spend a night before going to Machu Pichu
Great family owned hotel, they were very friendly and helpful and even offered to prepare breakfast to go because I was going out very early. They also kept my bag until I return from Macchu Picchu.
location, pretty close to Peru rail train station when arrival and bus station for Machu Picchu. welcome drink was great. Hotel staff was nice. Clean room and hot water for a good shower.
Everything is adapted to the traveler’s needs to finish Machu Picchu hiking trip. I really appreciate the flexibility and convenience this hotel provided.
