In fact, I did not find the hotel to be at a five-star level for many reasons, including
1- The hotel did not have a private garage 2- The bathrooms were not up to the required standard 3- The breakfast was lacking in many materials 4- The rooms were not comfortable due to street noise 5- The air conditioning was not good

A beautiful town, completely different from the Turkiye known by those who visit the coast. Kurdish, not Turkish, with Christian buildings going back to the fourth century and a culture that encompasses many religions and languages. A good base for a day trip (with guide) to Midyat and other local sites. Plenty of restaurants, serving wide variety of foods. Wine shops, selling local wines, but no bars in the old town.
Really wish we had read more before going. Pictures show the beautiful pale-coloured buildings climbing up the hillside but not the fact that the 'roads' are more often steps. Wonderful small narrow streets, a copper bazaar where people were at work, incredible churches, mosques and madrasas - but you need to have good hips and knees!
An excellent Hamam, open for men mornings and evenings, for women in the afternoons.
For anyone interested in early Christianity, in cultural melting pots, or in somewhere unlike most tourist towns, Mardin and Midyat, and the necropolis at Dara, the area is exceptional. Allow about four days and bring sensible shoes.
Good and cheap bus service from the airport, no need to use taxis.

This was the second time to visit Mardin, this time during a small road trip. Mardin is a place were you don not see Western people. Please do not mention it, otherwise it will ruined as other old citys. Atmosfere specicial on the market is like 200years old. Views are amazing, and most important the people.

Mardin old town is a remarkable destination - fabulous architecture, great shopping, many wonderful restaurants, and world renown historic sites nearby. We stayed at Fairouz Konak Otel, which we would highly recommend - it is a historic building in the heart of Mardin old town, within easy walking distance of many restaurants and stores, We were welcomed by our thoughtful host with delicious offerings of food and drink; he was able to answer all our questions about his city. The hotel was memorable for its charming rooms, fantastic panoramic views from many terraces, delicious breakfasts, and excellent host and staff, We highly recommend a visit to Mardin and a stay at Fairouz Konak Otel!

Mardin is one good medium city not very bussy for turists. There is one old and interesting city with a lot of loveley mosque, houses and narrow street, very different for others places from Europe. I used this location for travell to Dara and Husankyf on Tigris river.

Mardin is beautiful and ancient and wonderful.
Mardin is beautiful and ancient and wonderful. Everyone was so friendly - I never encountered even one person who wasn't kind and gracious.
I think the only down side to Mardin is all of the litter. Although I saw several workers cleaning, it seems the people of Mardin don't understand the impact of throwing you trash out the window, which I saw a lot of.
Nonetheless, I loved Mardin. The history, the people, the general feel... wonderful! I will return!

Mardin is a very interesting city in the East of Turkey.
Mardin is a very interesting city in the East of Turkey. There are a lot of places to visit for a person who loves history, culture and tasty food. People who live there are different: Turks, Kurds, Syriacs. The city is quite friendly and calm. There are a lot of must-visit places in the city center. It is also interesting to visit the close cities, like Midyat, Sanliurfa, Gobekli Tepe.
But I advice not to go in winter. This time it had started to snow right before the flight. So it was cancelled, the airport was closed for 2 days, as it was no ready for the weather somehow.
Really enjoyed our time at Dara Konagi in the old part of Mardin. The hotel itself has lots of character and the architecture of the place is very authentic and old-school Mardin, so that was in itself nice to be able to experience living in. The two terraces that the hotel boasts from are great places to hang out – especially early morning and in the evenings when the temperatures have cooled off a bit. The room was nice, spacious and cool and the breakfast served every morning also really good. Highly recommended.
We totally enjoyed our stay in this beautiful old konak located in the old city of Mardin. Don't miss out on the breakfasts that can be enjoyed at the rooftop overlooking the Mesopotamian hinterland.
Thank you to the staff (Idris, Emin, Zahit and Ferhat) and to Tahir who picked us up from the airport and accommodated us in so many ways during 2 day trips with him (one to Gobekli Tepe close to Sanliurfa and the other to Midyat and many interesting places around Mardin).
The staff at Merdin Hotel were very kind and helpful. They serve amazing Turkish breakfast which you will it while staring at the gorgeous landscape. Got to say that the Turkish coffee they served me was one of the best of the best I have tasted in all Turkey. The location is perfect, not far from the center yet a bit more on the side, far from the noise. The hotel has a balcony on which you can sit in the evenings and feel the cool breeze while enjoying your cup of tea.
The breakfast is excellent and very rich. The location is also great so you can enjoy your meal overlooking the Mesopotamian plain. All facilities and locations are available and very close. The hotel staff is very friendly, and especially the host of the hotel helped me a lot, he took me around Mardin, explained where I can move around the city and the like. I'm sure I'll be back again. I definitely recommend this hotel.
The hotel is in a traditional house specific to the area, impeccably restored.
Extraordinarily pleasant and English speaking staf.
Diverse and very delicious breakfast served impeccably.
All this, from the transfer of the luggage from the taxi (with the help of the donkey) to the extraordinary position and the interior design of the hotel, made us have an extraordinarily pleasant stay in this special city of Turkey.
Great location right in Mardin's main street in the old town with bars, restaurants and shops just out of the hotel. The host and the hotel staff were very kind and helpful. We got a quite spacious standard double room with a high ceiling. The hotel building is really impressing as it is built in stone and the rooms too. Good breakfast included in the price. AC, Wifi and fridge in the room were working.
Lovely family-ran hotel that brings together the beauty of ancient space (the building is around 900 years old) and modern design with an oriental touch. Located in the heart of Old Mardin, it was a perfect place to stay.
The owners are very friendly, welcoming and ready to help with anything. The breakfast was really nice, too.
Extremely lovely breakfast, amazing views, comfortable bed with hot water and picture perfect hotel that is beautiful! Would heartily recommend! The staff (Burcu, Pinar, and Ömer) were extremely helpful and Ömer made sure everything we could ever need was taken care of. Perfect location and exceeded our expectations!
Staff friendly and attentive. Deluxe room large and beautifully furnished. Not an impersonal, standardized hotel experience. You get to know where you are in the world and whom is taking care of your needs. Strongly recommended. If we ever get back to Mardin this will be the place where we will stay..
One of the best place we have ever stayed at.
This place has been recently restored, and it has been well done.
We strongly recommend this place.
People were amazing, and it is very well located in the old Mardin.
We will chose this place again if we visit again Mardin.
Fabulous! We loved our stay in this hotel--we had 2 unique 'cave' rooms which we very much enjoyed and 1 spacious upstairs room which was more typical of an upscale hotel.
