The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.
Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.
Beautiful town… definitely recommend Harry’s walking tour. (Free and very entertaining and informative) we have a tip at the end of it.
Felt safe, lots of restaurants, shops and history. The valley gardens were fabulous too.

Harrogate is lovely and our only regrets were the food on offer in the hotel restaurant plus the attempt to rip me off when the bill came. And we would have liked a bit more time so as to visit Bettys tea shop

Harrogate is a very pretty town and makes a good base to explore the area. It has lots of good restaurants like Piccolino, The Tannin Level or Oliveta and many great cafés including the famous Betty's. There aren't many sights in the town but it's very pleasant just to walk around and enjoy the architecture and gardens. Harlow Carr RHS Gardens is worth a visit. Historic York is only a 35 minute train ride away and gorgeous Knaresborough only 15 minutes on the same route.
Still, you'll need quite deep pockets as everything is at least as expensive as in London.

RHS Harlow Carr is my favourite place to visit and the purpose of my trip. I ate at the Old Swan Hotel where I stayed. Pretty easy to get around although there are a lot of one way streets and sometimes it is tricky to drive down some of them due to double parking on each side as the roads can be quite narrow. I would keep to the main roads next time.

Harrogate is a lovely spa town with picturesque gardens, lovely shops and a lot of historic buildings. Everything is within easy walking distance if a bit hilly. Harrogate has a great choice of places to eat. we will return.
The location was excellent for Harrogate, City centre was 10-15 Min walk away. Bus stops very close by. Car park, although a little tight was a bonus. Most hotels charge for overnight stays. Charging points available for electric vehicles. No cooked breakfast due to covid at present, but did offer an alternative. The price was very reasonable for the location. The staff and owner very friendly.
Warm welcome and very nice hotel. Orchid restaurant was exceptional and a real treat on the taste buds. We felt spoilt and had a lovely time. Great location near Harrogate’s centre which is a very nice place to walk around. Valley Park is also right next door and truly beautiful! We were able to charge our electric car onsite at a reasonable rate which was the icing on the cake!
Everything about the hotel was really good for me, the parking at the rear (£10 a day) is very good, the food both breakfast and dinner plus very good value for money, it’s location is right across from the exhibition centre and it’s central for most attractions in Harrogate plus the staff were ever so helpful and attentive it’s a 10 all round for me.
The hotel and grounds and beautiful and a short walking distance to the centre of Harrogate. The bed was very comfortable but I would have preferred a king size bed. I booked an accessible room as I am recovering from a broken ankle and the facilities were excellent and I felt well looked after. The pool, sauna and jacuzzi we also excellent.
The hotel is lovely and Patrick and Nick were fab hosts. Food was great. Location just a short walk from the centre of Harrogate. I badly sprained my ankle on the last day and the guys were very helpful and bought our breakfast to the room as we were on the second floor. You will not be disappointed if you stay here.
The Crown hotel is ideally suited for those attending a conference in the nearby conference centre and also for exploring Harrogate. The rooms are basic but ultimately have all that is necessary for a five day stay. Parking in the nearby Cornwall Road meant we didn't have to pay for parking.
The hotel is ideally located in the centre of Harrogate, only a short walk to the shops and restaurants. The room was clean and spacious with all the necessary amenities. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely with many different options to choose from.
Excellent value for money. We got far more than we expected for the price we paid. Excellent location, well within walking distance of Harrogate centre. Free parking, helpful and friendly staff. Warm, clean, comfortable room. Very good breakfast. Huge hotel with period features.
Location was perfect for exploring (on foot) Harrogate. Fat Badger restaurant was great - had an amazing meal there on the last night of our holiday. Handy on site parking (extra fee), room facilities all good/present that you would expect.
Hotel du vin rooms are so comfortable and the staff are kind, helpful and friendly. We particularly like Gerry on reception, her smile is infectious and so welcoming . A great venue and location is excellent we are frequent visitors.
Perfect location, close to the town centre and the lovely Harrogate Stray. We only stayed overnight so didn't really make much use of the facilities but have been to the hotel restaurant in the past and know its very nice as well
The hotel and grounds are beautiful, the staff are friendly and incredibly helpful, there was a great selection of items for breakfast and it's walkable proximity to the centre of Harrogate is excellent
Hotel is close to the centre of Harrogate. Very nice spacious rooms. Staff were all helpful/friendly. Excellent breakfast. I've been visiting Harrogate for many years and wish I'd stayed here before.
Super hotel located in the centre of Harrogate. Excellent breakfast. Clearly popular. Friendly atmosphere. Good parking. Big comfortable bed. Good value for money.
We have stayed overnight in several hotels in Harrogate over the past 10years or so, this didn't disappoint. The staff mirrored the facilities, exceptional!!
