Surrounded by rolling hills and Chianti vineyards, Siena shines as a jewel of the Tuscan Renaissance, and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the famous Palio di Siena horse race, catch the pulse of the city at Piazza del Campo, visit the beautiful Duomo cathedral…and fall in love with this charming city!
Founded by Etruscans around 900 BC, the city was first conquered by Romans and later by Lombards. The Middle Ages saw it becoming the independent and flourishing Republic of Siena, until its annexation to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The economic difficulties that followed turned out to be a blessing for the preservation of its historic center. Adorned with frescoes by Ghirlandaio and bass-reliefs by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Jacopo della Quercia, the Duomo represents the highest expression of this well-kept legacy. The shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, with the Palazzo Pubblico and the Gaia Fountain, is still the heart and soul of the city. Follow the labyrinth of narrow streets and passages that irradiate from there and you will be enchanted by its romantic atmosphere from ancient times.
The closest airports are Peretola Airport in Florence and Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa, though Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna is also well connected. While planning your trip, don’t forget to check out the Siena accommodations deals on Booking.com!

This was a great location for visiting Siena and the local region. Although on a bus route the buses aren’t very frequent so it is certainly easier with a car. Parking available at the property. Good restaurant next door - but sadly not at all good for vegetarians!
The monastery on top of the hill is a must - we had a drink up there in the bar - but the food in the restaurant looked great too and was reasonably priced.
A great base for visiting Tuscany.

Beautiful city with interesting sights, but they have to do a lot more if they want to accommodate this number of tourists (especially to create or control the taxi service which is absolutely unprofessional and unreliable).

This was our most liked stop in our almost three week trip to Italy. The property and staff was amazing and they were able to recommend restaurants, arrange taxi service and especially the wine tour to the Mazzie Winery in Fonterutoli. The property was top notch, clean, quiet and would highly recommend if you are staying in Siena.

Keko our guide was fantastic combing historic elements to modern day life with a bit of nature and wildlife thrown in. Visiting Siena was a an experience we will never forget and we hope to return someday.

We enjoyed our visit to Siena in spite of the rain on our first day. We visited the Duomo complex and were impressed with the splendour of the Cathedral, the Bapistry and the Crypt but The Piccolomini library was the most impressive part of the complex for us. We enjoyed just walking around the streets of Siena and taking in the centuries old feel of the place.
The close proximity to the main sights and the 15min walk to the main bus station was fantastic. We reached Siena from Florence using the 131R bus.
The hotel does not have an 'obvious' entrance door and can easily be missed in the dark. The welcome we received was amazing and so was the room facing the garden. We would definitely return despite the hotel not having a 24hour reception ( if you need anything you can contact staff via WhatsApp which is really useful and quick!)
A cosy hotel organised in the former convent. It was clean and had all basic facilities. It has a great view of the panorama of Siena, and is well located: good access to the supermarket (5 min or so), a few minutes to the S10 bus connected with the train station, 7 min to the Via Tozzi station with buses to Florence, etc. There is no kettle in the room. There is a lift in the hotel but there are external stairs leading to the building. Helpful staff. Old-fashioned shower.
The entire place is exceptionally cozy, we immediately felt like we're home. Our room was nicely decorated and very clean, and what's more, before our arrival someone turned on the heating, so it was really nice and warm - something you don't find too often in Italy. The view from our window was astonishing. The host, Piero, is a genuinely nice and polite person.
We hope to come visit Siena and Casacenti again.
Outstanding staff, Lorenzo and Giacomo were extremely helpful during our stay. Lorenzo gave us an intro on the things to see, recommendations on food and also tips on how to move between the hotel and the center of Sienna.
The location is great, the views are breathtaking and the hotel itself is an old house that was built by the Piccolomi family, a noble family from Italy that actually had 2 popes.
We loved everything about Hotel Italia. The breakfast buffet was excellent (and the only time we had eggs during our week’s tour of Italy). The staff were always professional and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean, quiet and had a comfortable bed / pillows. The hotel is a few minutes’ walk from the central train station and a 20 minutes’ walk from Sienna’s cathedral.
Probably one of the nicest places we've ever stayed in Italy. Situated just outside the centre of Siena, a 30 minute walk will get you there by partly taken the escalators. The Borgo is well-maintained, lovely furnished and has a beautiful large pool with amazing view. Staff is really helpful and friendly! Breakfast served will boost your energy for long after lunch ;)
The apartment is big and beautiful! Rotunda ceiling of brick, a full kitchen and a beautiful pato area. Most comfortable bed in our 1 month traveling Italy! Quiet area, quick walk to Siena historic center. Host quick to respond to questions. Very kind and helpful. Cool drinks and bottle of Prosecco to
welcome us!
The location is great and so is the view of the Duomo. Parking was made very easy by the hotel staff. It did cost 20 euro to have the car parked remotely but I feel it was worth it. Breakfast was probably the best I had in my two week trip to Italy. The place was clean and I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is very comfortable and in a beautiful setting. The location is excellent: within Siena's historic center, but somewhat removed from the busier area and nightlife noise. Overall the hotel met my expectations, it's not luxurious, but charming and comfortable. Breakfast was great too.
Absolutely fabulous location near all the major sites in Siena. Made you feel like you were part of the town magic. The host was very accommodating. Nice old Italy feel with beamed ceilings. Would definitely stay here again.
The view was surreal, gazing upon the endless vineyards, castles dotted across the hills and siena in the background. Truly one of my favorite places in Italy I visited. The history, food, and nature were a sight to behold.
A small, beautiful, family-run hotel with modern decor. Very clean, superb breakfast, and very friendly and helpful staff. The location is a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the main sights of Siena. Highly recommend!
Excellent breakfast! In my experience the breakfast at smaller hotels in Italy is very modest, but here it is really good! Several types of bread, cereals, juices, fresh fruit and nuts. And the cakes!
Nice hotel outside Siena
Very nice garden with incredible views of Tuscan hills.
Hotel is 1,5 km fm Siena and 2,5 km fm city centre, but if you walk it is very good exercise with beautiful views.
