The village is quite pretty with many old houses.

The village is quite pretty with many old houses. It is clean but in August quite busy. Traffic can be slow moving through the town. The beach was disappointing but Portmarnock beach a couple of miles south is very good. There are many restaurants which provide a variety of choice although there is a preponderance of Italian dishes. The views out to sea are good and walking around the town is interesting.

I'm not familiar with the area, trip was for a wedding with a couple of days added on. Transport was slow. Nowhere locally to leave a suitcase on departure day. The train station officer allowed us to leave it for a few hours. We enjoyed a tour around Malahide Castle and a stroll around the gardens. Lots of pubs if that's your thing. I don't drink. Not knowing the area I am unlikely to visit there again. However, if you want a base for travel into town, it's fine. Travelling inland is tricky unless you travel by the Luas on the old line towards Sandyford. We got taxis everywhere as the wedding was nearby, as were a couple of family visits. If going out, definitely plan your travel to reduce frustration. It is cheap though and taxis are not extortionate either, as fares strictly by the meter. Just book ahead if on a deadline :-)

The hotel expansion programme since my last visit is astonishing but it retains and has upgraded its regality without charging an extreemly high fee. Since it was too late to eat in the hotel we walked into the village and just scraped into a useful take away venue closing at 11 pm. Expectations that we could have had the food delivered to the hotel were unfounded but we enjoyed a late night drink to accompany the food on our return. This is a wonderful but not stuffy hotel with most agreable staff.

We ate at Siam Thai both nights. Food was delicious and service was excellent The following are merely suggestions. Increased designated access ways for pedestrians to access the beach and additional seating placed at regular intervals on the coastal walkway to Portmarnock.

Such an elegantly comfortable stay at a grand hotel! The professional and friendly staff were very welcoming on my early arrival. Malahide is such a charming town and the Grand is a perfect place to stay to visit this charming town that embraces and uses its famous castle and grounds. The posh bar served a wonderful selection of food choices for a weary traveler. Of course, it is convenient to the Dublin airport and the facility parking was a real plus! Lovely visit!

The check-in staff was professional and friendly even when I went back to them with more questions. The lobby is what you would expect from a hotel with "grand" in it's name with it's wide open space and chandeliers! The room was huge for European standards and well appointed and had slippers and a robe and a lovely bathroom and coffee!

The location! The town center of Malahide is just a short stroll away, and it's filled with charming shops, cafes, and restaurants. The picturesque marina is another must-visit spot, and you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the waterfront while taking in the beautiful views. Very close to the airport as well :)
