Breakfast was really great. There were various things and they were good taste also. The location was closed to many attractive places in Otaru. We just walked around there to find some restuarants. Really comfortable for my family...

I really liked Otaru, even though it is small and doesn’t have too much to see. It’s really just the main shopping strip and the canal. There are a few museums and some spots in the mountains (there seems to be a ropeway that is poorly advertised but would have been perfect) but that’s about it.
It’s really quite a charming place. The streetscape and history are both fascinating, and the food great - especially ankake yakisoba and kaisendon. I do think it would be an absolutely perfect place to end a trip and unwind for a few days before returning to reality.

A lovely old port town with many original buildings being repurposed for tourism - dining and glass making.
Compact size makes walking around easy but in winter could be snow bound.
Lots of great places to explore old Japanese culture and dining and drinking experiences.
Lots of fresh seafood...many diners around the actual fish market shop with all types of Japanese cuisine... tempura...sakitori...sushi..shashimi...hotpot ...ramen etc..and absolutely amazing bakeries / patisseries and local ice cream and dairy products. Even wineries have opened up.
And even more if you are a winter sports person with ski resorts on the town outskirts...seaon just closed when we were here.
All this a simple train ride from Sapporo Airport -- ok maybe an 2 hour ride...not bad if straight off the plane from Sydney or Seoul or Tokyo into the Sapporo airport.

After coming from the big city of Sapporo we loved the smaller town of Otaru. Planned on just doing a day trip but changed to stay overnight. Wish we had taken a day off Sapporo and added it to Otaru. No lights on the canal as expected but we still loved Otaru. Easy to walk to everything and a lot to enjoy.

We went during winter.
We went during winter. It is a small quiet town and most shops close around 5-6pm. So good to settle dinner early. As a small and quiet town, the place is generally quiet and peaceful after dusk. There is nothing to do after dusk and travelers can take a stroll down the Otaru canal and enjoy the night view.

Give the canal a pass, especially if you have been to Europe. Very underwhelming. Take the local train one stop to Shioya and hike the Shioya Maru-yama. It is about a 6km round trip hike up a local mountain with great views. Take the same train to Yoichi to tour the Nikka Whiskey Distillery and sample great whiskeys in the restaurant after the tour (book reservation for tour ahead of time and remember everything shuts down around 16:00).

The hotel: Great location, staff service facilities and everything you need to support your comfortable stay, a little cosy but expected in the country.
The town is lovely and has now become my most favourite town in Japan, want to be here more, it give me relax, local people are also very nice.
My friend and I booked a room each for 4 nights at this establishment.
We had no real expectations, we just knew it was on the beach North of Oturo Hokkaido 45 minutes from Sapporo.
The staff were incredibly accommodating, the rooms were immaculate and well appointed.
We ate breakfast, had an Hokkaido barbecue, and a Michelin standard dinner.
I could not recommend this hotel highly enough.
Extremely good value for the level of service and cuisine, absolutely fabulous!
I came with my family and we booked a room for four for two days . The room was very clean, amenities very complete and all work well. Staff at the reception and housekeeping were very pleasant and very helpful, we really enjoyed our stay and glad we chose this hotel. What came as an additional surprise was the perfect location for shopping and food, there were so many interesting things within just a short walk!
The location was down the street from the train station, which made it so convenient. We wanted to see the Lantern Festival that was right across the street from the hotel.
Not to mention the breakfast buffet that we totally enjoyed. If I ever stay in Otaru again, I would definitely stay there again.
Hotel Nord Otaru is classic business hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our room seemed a little small at first, we have no problem staying a night without feeling uncomfortable. All necessities were provided in our room. Nonetheless, we love that bathroom and toilet were separated.
The hotel fitout and aesthetic is great, the staff are friendly and speak really good English, the food is great, and the hotel bar is a good place to relax for a whiskey or two. The hotel is close to everything you want to see in Otaru - the canal and the main shopping strip.
Room view - we got the Room with Canal View and the view definitely did not disappoint.
Room size - the rooms were quite spacious as compared to our other hotel bookings in Japan.
Location - located right next to the Otaru Canal
I enjoyed staying here and using it as a base to sightsee in Otaru. Clean comfortable rooms and good value for money. The staff were really kind and friendly.
just a great hotel, comfy, close to the station and to Otaru with a few stops. Gorgeous view on the port, supermarket and restaurants nearby in the mall.
