We have owned Huntington Stables Retreat for 9 years & are constantly finding ways to improve the grounds & facilities. We have just added the 'Tack Shack' - a meeting/workshop room, & a giftshop. We are now revamping the gardens so guests can walk right around the property more easily, while admiring garden art by local potters & artists. Our giftshop sells NZ art & crafts, & we support local businesses by using products & services from within the area. Bird Rescue & Rehoming,Cambridge is also based on our property, taking in wild birds that need care before being released again when fully recovered, & the rehoming of domestic/pet birds. A long term resident is 'Luna' - an albino sparrow, who was caught by a cat but managed to survive. For her safety & well-being, Luna will live out her life in our large aviary, with much love & attention. We strive to live 'mindfully' & encourage guests to encompass these principles. While the property is better set up for adults, children are welcome in either the North or South Stable. We look forward to meeting you soon.

We love living here with these wonderful views & surrounded by nature. There are so many different birds that visit including white doves, tuis, fantails, kingfishers, keruru, plovers, the occasional pheasant, partridge & quail. We love birds so much that we have become the local bird rescue & rehoming centre. We are keen theatre people; having studied theatre for several years, & love to enter theatre competitions when we can. Andy loves rugby & has finally succeeded in changing my views about the game! When we can, Andy, Ollie our cockatiel & myself, walk sections of Te Araroa, in a bid to see more of NZ, while raising money for Te Araroa Trust.

We are situated on a semi-rural road 5 minutes drive from the centre of town. At the top of the road is Maungakawa Scenic Reserve which is a great place to go for a small bush walk. It's a lovely area but needs an attraction like Zipline to fully take advantage of the views from up there. If we win Lotto we might investigate this idea further! A few mins down the road is the wonderful Te Ko Utu lake. An easy flat walk around the entire lake takes around 20 mins. There is plenty of room to have a picnic or just relax & watch the ducks. We are centrally situated to many wonderful places of interest & destinations: only 30 mins drive to Hobbiton, 1 hour to Rotorua, 1 hour to Waitomo, 20 mins to an excellent kayaking & glow-worm adventure, 20 mins to Mystery Creek (Field Days, Equidays etc), & 5 mins to excellent restaurants & cafes. The cycling velodrome is 8 mins drive & 15 km to Karapiro rowing! Sanctuary Mountain is 40 mins away. Hobbiton tours, places of interest, things to do, & great places to eat can all be arranged from here.
