Historic center was vibrant and scenic. Enjoyed visiting the Basilica as well as the magnificent Church of the Franciscans and the colorful architecture and plazas. Enjoyed the chocolate tasting at Mundo, delicious traditional Andean cuisine at Runa Tulpa Andina and excellent continental cuisine at La Vid in the Archbishop's Palace. There was 360 degree view of city from the Statue of the Virgin Panecillo at top of Quito. A major highlight was the tour of the Capilla del Hombre and the home of the artist, Oswaldo Guayasamin.

Due to current political issues in Ecuador, we were a little apprehensive about making the trip. However, only minutes after we landed in Quito we fell in love. The airport is amazingly clean and has all the amenities you would want. Quito, the La Carolina area, was extremely clean and very secure. The shopping was fantastic and there were tons of restaurants to choose from. All that said, we were most surprised by how reasonably priced everything was.
Also, a lot of bars do not take credit cards. Ecuador uses the American dollar, so have some on hand so you don't have an awkward experience.
We would definitely make the trip again.

We were just there one night to experience the city having spent a few nights in the mountains near Pifo.
Loved the crazy city - beautiful architecture. Lots of security/police presence which made it feel safe. My partner was unwell so I explored the city solo - I was approached by a policeman who gave me a map and ensured I was safe/aware of where to walk etc.
It is easy to travel by foot. I would have liked longer but feel 2-3 nights would have been plenty.

We stayed 2 nights in Quito.
We stayed 2 nights in Quito. We had one full day in Quito, which was not enough. We happened to be there during Carnivale. We took a cab to the Basilica and then walked to Independance square to observe the celebration. Later we had a great meal in the nearby hall.

I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito.
I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito. A pickpocket stole my wallet and I lost USD 200. The police didn't seem to care and most couldn't speak English. Every single day I was harassed by beggars, some of whom were very aggressive. I didn't feel safe in Quito and became paranoid. I couldn't wait to leave. I would NEVER return to Ecuador and probably not any other country in South America. There is a nationwide state of emergency now, and it's very dangerous. I advise my fellow Americans to avoid Ecuador like the plague unless you go straight to the Galapagos Islands. Ecuador is by far the worst country I've ever been to and I've traveled all over the world.

It's an old city, with lots of history and historical buildings. Many museums, often free. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and the climate is excellent.
Most of the people I met were friendly and willing to help a confused stranger. There are some beggars, and some unsavory areas, as with any sizable city.
I highly recommend visiting Wikiri Sapoparque if you're an animal lover. It's a great and unique experience.
We had a lovely stay at Carpe DM. Fher is a wonderful host and will go above and beyond to help you make the most of your time in Ecuador and advise you on your itinerary. The place is located within walking distance of the historic center and neighborhoods of La Mariscal and La Floresta. I hadn't slept so well in a bed in a long time! Regarding activities, Fehr can also help you organize day trips around Quito or longer ones to the Amazon and such. PS : great hot water to help relieve sore muscles at the end of the day.
I loved my stay in this grand old house with thick walls and stone fireplaces. The room was clean and basic with a good bed. The staff where exceptionally friendly and helpful. Freddy the concierge is a treasure. Diago the manager is a great guy (both spoke good English). All staff went out of their way to help me and where honest and transparent. I came by Hotel taxi transfer which was painless. This was my first days in Ecuador; it was a great welcome, and an exceptionally professional service.
Hernan and Gloria, the manager of the hotel, are very very nice, trustworthy and respectful people. We stayed several times with them and enjoyed the stay with hot water, good Wi-Fi, quiet and clean rooms and basic continental breakfast. The location is really good (just around the corner to the historical Center) and there is a really good pizza place in the quiet street. Hernan also speaks English and knows a lot about Quito and Ecuador and helped us with various things. Thank you for everything!
Great hotel! Walking distance from old town and close to the beautiful, main cathedral. The room is huge, elegant and clean, with great toiletries and services. Staff is very welcoming and helpful. They are happy to arrange your pick up service from/to the airport at a reasonable price, organize daily trips to Ecuador beauties or to address you to a clinic close by if you need a covid test. I would definitely go back, thank you!
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Staff responds to messages promptly be solve nearly any issues you may encounter while abroad. They planned my pickup from the airport, planned my tours, planned our return COVID test, did our laundry, allowed us to store our luggage and even opened my suitcase after the lock broke. Absolutely gorgeous property at the heart of old town, walking distance to tourist attractions
Edna and her excellent staff were outstanding. The hotel is a beautiful, old colonial building that was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The location is very good as you are in close walking distance to the San Francisco and Santo Domingo Cathedrals, the Museo de la Ciudad, and other great sites in Old Town. The breakfast is delicious too (thanks Paulina!). Great value. Would definitely stay there again.
A basic but fantastic hostel. Clean and comfortable. staff great and plan told of activities to entertain in the evenings as area isn’t safe at night. food is superb and cheap. they help organise tours and give great advice on your Ecuador trip. hot shower and fast wifi. and the rooftop terrace has just been refurbished and is an awesome place to chill out with stunning views over Quito.
beautiful property! very unique. combines modern with classic Ecuadorian architecture! Breakfast was great with a beautiful view. Only negative is also its positive. The location in old town is great, but not some place you should walk at night. Felt very safe as they had a bery secure hotel. would stay again!
Breakfast was great. Coffee from coffee maker. Bread was good. Fruit excellent per usual in Ecuador. Eggs made to guest liking. Kitchen very clean. Could eat breakfast in beautiful gardens
Bed was comfortable. Duvet with cover was used with great pillow. Was pleasantly surprised. Hotel very clean. Staff welcoming.
This place is amazing and the owners go above and beyond to help in any way they can. We stayed twice during our two week trip to Ecuador because the first stay was so exceptional. The hotel itself is so beautiful and special, but the owners are really what made it so extraordinary. Don't think twice, just book it!
exceptional value. the staff was wonderful and kind and they made sure everything was perfect for us. they allowed our kids to play with their dogs and brought us a yummy warm drink for our family. it’s well placed in Quito Old Town. there was some street noise but it was manageable. I would stay here again!
Great staff!
Ricardo’ warm welcome at breakfast area kicked off the day for all the guests.
and especially, Yale, at the reception, who was always so patient and helpful, and very fluent in English, she truly added value to my Quito and Ecuador experience overall.
Thank you guys~
The hotel is located on top of a hill very close to the Old town. It has a lovely ambience with excellent views over Quito. David at reception was very helpful with all the information. The breakfast and service at the restaurant was very good topped with the views.
Breakfast was one of the best we have had in south america! It was perfect location in the old town. Staff were super helpful with our plans in Quito and the rest of Ecuador. Rooms were spacious and clean and the shower was hot We loved our stay and would reccomend!
Very beautiful small hotel, managed by an Ecuadorian family. They were always very helpful and friendly. The place itself is very beautiful and recently renovated.
Excellent location only a 5-10 minutes walk to the main square in the historical center of Quito.
Great location as a base for staying in Quito, walking distance to the key sights in the old town and surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants. Interior of the hotel was amazing! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious!
Really enjoyed the hotel, all staff was patient and accommodating. Food was very good, breakfast exceptional! Rooms were spacious and comfortable. The old town area architecture was interesting.
This hotel was in the heart of the Old Historical District of Quito. The location lead us to visit the center of the old town rich with restaurants, churches, and spectacular views.
This is one of the best hotels in Quito. It has very clean rooms and friendly staff. I have been to other hotels in Ecuador but I give this Wyndham the highest rating: excellent.
It is a charming older building converted to a hotel. The location is great, right in the heart of the old town with a trolley station outside the door.
