I booked the George Inn at 7pm on a Sunday evening of a BH weekend after getting rained off from my camping. The place was still busy with the Sunday lunch crowd and clearly the host couple had been flat out busy all day. Nevertheless they were both absolutely charming and quickly showed me a lovely comfortable room and got me a meal and a pint followed by some excellent home made Victoria sponge. Before long I was co-opted onto one of the pub quizz teams and had a great evening in front of the toasty open fire with my new friends. Lovely people who run a great little Inn.

Fabulous small city. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Fabulous small city. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The Conservative club in the market square made us fresh sandwiches to takeaway even though take away wasn't on the menu. The city itself was very clean and well cared for. Independent shops a delight, market has an interesting mix of stalls. Well worth a visit you need more that an overnight visit to see it all. Even though the center is easy to walk around you need a whole day extra to visit the gardens and cathedral.

'England's smallest city' is worth the detour - and it is a detour. Set in lovely countryside, the unmissable sights are the beautiful Cathedral and historic Bishop's Palace in its wonderful gardens (worth getting a joint ticket for both). A great place for a weekend away, with a buzzing market on Saturday mornings and plenty of thriving independent shops, cafés and restaurants. Root on Sadler Street was especially good - mainly but not exclusively vegetarian and vegan, really inventive and fantastic quality ingredients and friendly service. There are plenty of friendly pubs serving great local beer and cider. Parking around the city centre takes luck or planning or both, but otherwise it's easy to walk everywhere.

Our trip was specifically to visit the rural levels and also to catch up on a friend in the area. We did not visit Wells on this occasion so can't comment specifically. However if you want to be well situated to explore the area Wookey Hole and its hotel is a good place to be. Locally there is the Ebor Gorge within walking distance and road access to most of the area is accessible although you must be happy driving on some narrow roads. Hotel is definitely not luxury but is clean and convenient with excellent staff. Good value for money if looking for convenience rather than luxury.

We visited Wells Cathedral, which is an absolutely stunning place, the staff are very welcoming and the donation system is very reasonable. The only thing I would say is if there is anyone with Auditory sensory issue, check if they are cleaning the organ before going in as this did dampen my experience not knowing at the time. The library is up a set of s prial stairs so not accessible, however if you have someone willing to run up and take some pictures, it does look like a wonderful place.
We stayed 2 nights in early May. This is a lovely guesthouse in a historic building. Plenty of parking, a comfortable room, delicious breakfasts, and a perfect location for visiting Wells and Glastonbury. Louise & Steve were great hosts. We even had the opportunity to see how the mill works—thank you, Steve. And Louise, your homemade breads are wonderful! We enjoyed walking to the Ring O’ Bells for good food and drinks. The pub across the road was in the process of reopening so we didn’t have a chance to check it out.
The place is amazing for it is an old, 17th century place. It ia basicely facing the cathedral even if not direct view on it. The rooms are quiet and simple but pleasant comfort. There is no luxury there, just pleasantly ancient and beautiful especially the pub with attractions sometimes like a band singing but the hotel is quiet. And it is as a foreign tourist great fun to live abive a pub and spend the evening drinking a glass of wine or else in "our pub"
A lovely old, historic hotel! Location was perfect for walking to the Bishops Palace, Bishops Close and Wells Cathedral. View from our room was lovely out onto the well in Market Square – we had a Double Room with Four Poster Bed. Due to the history, the floors are quite creaky, but this adds a bit to the charm. Staff were very obliging and found us a table when we had arrived quite late. Breakfast was ok.
i really like the history and style of the building. It was full of character. the view of the cathedral from my room was amazing and I felt really grateful. the only down fall was there wasn’t parking on site. however, was cheap car parks that wasn’t too far from the hotel. The reception staff was lovely and really helpful also. Wells is a very pretty city and it is close to Glastonbury. Great location
Very hospitable welcome and caring hosts. This pub is the centre of the village community and a very worthwhile stay location for Wells or Shepton Mallet. If we were to come to visit Wells again we would stay at the George Inn as our preference. Our room (#2) was rather small but we would request a larger one next time. Overall a very happy stay and we would be glad to come back again.
Sarah, hotel owner was fantastic, couldn't do enough for us. Even made her washing machine available to us.
Terrific room, tastefully decorated with extras. Great bathroom, clean and functional.
All staff in hotel were welcoming. Parking was an issue but made easy with staff assistance.
Easy walk up to market square and stunning Wells Cathedral
Everything you could think of was provided. It was a beautiful apartment right in the centre of Wells. It was spacious with lots of personal touches which made it very comfortable. My sister and I often stay at The Swan Hotel in Wells but this apartment will now be our first go to when booking further trips to Wells.
The location is perfect for for visiting the great attractions and restaurants of Wells and being able to park at the hotel was key.
The garden area is perfect for enjoying the view towards the Cathedral.
The location of the hotel is right on the Cathedral Close and is ideal for visiting Wells to see the main sites. The on-site restaurant, Rugatinos, is well worth a visit. Excellent food and service.
The pub below the rooms of the City Arms really exceeded our expectations. The service and food were 5 stars. It was a really fun location for exploring Wells. Really cool place, we loved it.
This is a truly exceptional family run boutique hotel experience. Everything about Beryl is welcoming and unique. It was the perfect environment from which to explore Wells.
Spacious room, fab location, discounted rate for the cave when staying at the hotel.
If staying here do NOT follow sat nav, follow the signs from Wells instead.
