Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.
Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.
The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.
Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.
Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

It is a very beautiful, intricate and fascinating place with wonderful museums and a wide range of events and activities every day and evening. The local people are very hospitable, kind and accommodating. So many people were happy to help me and give me advice or just have a conversation with a visitor.

Beautiful city. Calm and relaxed.
Beautiful city. Calm and relaxed. People are courteous and polite. Loved the slow life. City centre doesn’t have many attractions so one can take the 2 hr. Walking tour. Many great places to eat . And all under one roof Westgate shopping centre too.

Lovely place to visit.
Lovely place to visit. I went as my family grew up in Oxford and I have never been before. Drove from Oxford to Fritwell, then onto Bicester. Lovely little trip. The city centre was beautiful, so much to do in the short time I was there.

The hotel is very unique.
The hotel is very unique. We stayed in one of the cell rooms which added to the experience. I think if you didn’t stay in one of the cell rooms, it would feel like staying in any other nice hotel. Just bare in mind that the cell rooms do not have a window that you can look out of, only a little window near the ceiling, it is literally 2-3 old Victorian prison cells converted into one room, so you wouldn’t expect there to be a window to look out of. The cell room feels very spacious and very nicely converted, with a prison vibe going on. If you are driving to the hotel, to avoid disappointment, make sure you reserve parking. Parking is VERY limited.
We had an evening meal in the hotel, which was excellent, a little over priced maybe? So I was expecting an excellent breakfast, but sadly not. I had full English and my breakfast was warm, not hot. Found the bacon and potato croquettes quite rubbery. I felt my breakfast was probably cooked an hour ago and was kept under one of them warming lights. Even if my breakfast was freshly cooked, I still think for breakfast it was extremely over priced.
Over all the hotel was superb and is in a fantastic location, centre of Oxford. Everything you want to see and do in Oxford is all within walking distance.
I would gladly recommend this hotel.

Unfortunately, only spent a few hours walking around the old historic parts of Oxford. There's plenty of beautiful sandstone buildings and sights to see. Many places charge an entrance fee though but still enjoyed just wandering around looking at the architecture and down to the river was very pleasant. Definitely, will read up and research more on the history and places to see for a return visit to Oxford. Good bus service to the city centre.

I enjoyed the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian library and looking at all the wonderful buildings, colleges and Churches. The view from the top of the Carfax tower was superb as was the Covered Market and the main High St was full of many interesting shops.
The Westgate shopping Mall was great - the city is very compact and easy to navigate. The streets are very clean and without rubbish everywhere.
There are many good restaurants and bars at reasonable prices.
Very nice hotel located just outside the Oxford city centre. Great location if you wanna be close, but not in the middle of the city centre. The rooms are a bit small (we didn`t really mind , because we only had a shower and slept there), but the room was fresh and nice with a good standard. The beds are supergood! Diana, Patrick and the rest of the staff we met, were very friend, helpful and available. Helped us with parking, and where to eat nearby. Good value for your money too! Would recommend it to anyone.
Lovely room, tea and biscuits provided, even a little bag of toiletries which was lovely! Soft and hard pillows to suit your preference and the heating made the room very cosy. Great central location for seeing all the main sites of Oxford. Reception worker was very helpful on the phone when we called asking for parking suggestions. Room was a decent size and was very quiet. We didn't hear any noise from the other rooms and the hotel allowed us to store our bags there for the day which is always helpful.
The hotel is very beautiful and peaceful. It is a short distance from Oxford city centre but feels a million miles away in the countryside. There is a charming river at the back of the property at the end of a scenic lawn. The room was bigger than I expected and spotless throughout. The reception staff were especially friendly and helpful.
I had dinner in the restaurant on site and the menu had a good range of choices so I was satisfied. A good stay.
We wound up with a few extra nights before flying home. So we decided to relax and walk around Oxford. We walked from the train station, along the Oxford canal, and then up to the hotel. That was fabulous! Just the kind of relaxation we were looking for. The hotel was comfortable. We walked to N. Parade for food, and a very nice coffee and cakes place. - Oh yeah, the hotel was nice. No big deal.
Great Central Oxford location. Plenty of good shopping, 6eating and drinking places nearby.
Nothing fancy about the hotel but just what is needed for a brief city centre stay. Staff helpful, room small but comfortable, good bathroom.
No parking at hotel but the Oxford park and ride schem⁶e works well with frequent buses. Good taxi services too. Please
The room was quiet with a lovely view of the garden. It was great to wake up and see the horses outside.
The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and well laid out for a 5-day stay.
The hotel is so close to Oxford but not in the busy centre offering more peace and quiet than centrally located hotels. The riverside walk to Oxford is excellent.
very well run. Pleasantly surprised that they served dinner in the hotel ( it was raining..) Food surprisingly good! Great selection at breakfast. About a mile outside city centre but lovely walk in. Gees restaurant nearby which was great. generally very good choice for a reasonably priced hotel in Oxford. parking £10 a night.
The Old Bank Hotel is located in downtown Oxford, literally across the street from the campus of Oxford University. The facilities are excellent. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was included and the wait staff was responsive to requests. The room itself was luxurious. Best bathtub I have ever seen.
Nice business class hotel with all the comforts and amenities of a modern hotel. Nice functional bathroom, roomy shower, working air conditioner, large-ish room. They have a bar. Breakfast was pretty decent. A welcome respite after all the 'charming' little hotels in England.
This was bay far the best hotel to stay at for being in the center of Oxford but also in a small, picturesque setting. The hotel has all the facilities you could want, excellent breakfast, rooftop garden seating, nice rooms, it’s expensive but worth it.
Our stay was lovely, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, the rooms were charming, and the food and drink delicious! this was the best pub I’ve ever stayed in during visits to England.
The hotel is a 5min drive from Oxford Parkway. Huge enough for 6 luggages to fit in a studio room. Comfortable bed, clean room and lovely amenities. There are nice refreshments by the lobby as well.
The location is just in the city centre next to Morton College and few steps to the Oxford tube and airline bus! The hotel staff are all very helpful and happy to help my luggage with the stairs.
City centre location and the brilliant conversion from the old gaol into an interesting hotel. Within a few steps you find yourself in the heart of Oxford, the shopping, bars and the colleges.
An excellent hotel at a reasonable price compared to the city centre hotels. And if you are traveling by car parking in central Oxford is a nightmare. Plentiful parking here.
