The Coral was the best and most atmospheric hotel we stayed in in Greece. It is ideally l;ocated, spotlessly clean, spacious and the owner and staff are very helpful and friendly.

Such a beautiful little seaside village that comes to life at night. Could have stayed longer and enjoyed the views, vibes and people. Also we found the pricing cheaper for food and drinks. I must stop

The room was clean and relatively new looking.
The room was clean and relatively new looking. There is no wifi or tv in room. They have wifi at the bar and should be able to get it to rooms with routers but have not bothered. The bed was a disaster, it was hardest bed I have ever tried to sleep on. My wife and I both hardly slept and had sore back in the morning. We have been travelling for over 5 weeks had no problem with any other beds.

There is a great vibe at Matala that differs from the rest of Creta. The hippie feel is true. We caught live music the night we were there and it was the best moment.
This along with the red beach - strongly recommend.

Matala is a tourist hot spot.
Matala is a tourist hot spot. So a lot of restaurants there, lot of tourist shops with souvenirs and a lot of people. The beach itself is not that big, but it was nice though. I mean it really depends on what you are looking for. I am more fond of less crowded and less touristy places, so perhaps next time I would look for something more matching my preferences. On the other hand there is nothing wrong about Matala at all. All the people there are very friendly. Really it depends on what you prefer...

Matala is a quiet little town with not a lot of traffic, music or noise. You come here to relax. If you like naturist beaching this place is definitely for you (Red beach and Komos beach).
Moreover, Matala can be a good base for visiting the area (you have to rent a car or a bike).

Beautiful little hippie Place with lots of Restaurants, Bars and Cafés.
The beach in matala, the red beach and the caves of matala are a must see. When you are in matala I would recommend the Restaurants Georges Yard, Plaka and Hakuna matata.
Wonderful rooms and terrace area, simple and comfortable. The owner is very kind and helpful, giving me a welcome coffee and even fixing me up when I injured myself! The rooms can be cleaned daily. I had everything i needed and was very happy here- ended up extending for a few days! The location is quiet and good (especially if you've rented a car, it's a 1 minute drive to town... although in high season i imagine once you've found a parking spot, you won't be much closer than the hotel!) There was a kitchen available onsite.
Hotel Matala was exactly what we expected it to be.... wonderful.
Small hotel in the beach zone, which was one street from the beach and the village centre, so quiet at night away from the bustle. Room was exceptionally clean, lovely shower and comfortable beds.
There's no pool here which does not matter at all as the beach is 2 minutes away.
Free parking just up the road was great - there's very little parking in the beach zone.
Lovely owner who was super helpful.
Astounding value for the price
Highly recommend
We truly enjoyed our stay at this place - it was a last minute choice and I'm glad we chose it. The staff is EXCEPTIONAL, the room was immaculate, the pool is great and the vibe is fun and friendly. We had our own room (not a dorm type) with a private bathroom. Our room also had a large balcony and great A/C which we needed. There was always plenty of hot water which I managed to get everywhere (see below). The hotel is located a bit out of the main area which we liked... about a 15 min walk from "downtown" Matala.
Matala is a small town, and the hotel is a little outside, maybe 5 minutes walking from the Beach/town. The Breakfast was ok, i visited 3 other Hotels and this seems a standard Breakfast in the Island. The hotel has a pool what makes it perfect for after or before the beach. The room was big enough and we had a "big" terrase, where we could even hang our wet clothes.
I really loved this hostel. It has a good wibe to it, location is perfect not to far from the beach and cafes/restaurants in Matala. Very friendly volunteers. Big and well equipped kitchen, nice and social common areas with a bar. Big bonus with the pool outside. I had a wonderful time, and ended up extending my stay every morning for a week.
Small family hotel with clean rooms and a nice swimming pool. The beating heart, however, is the cosy bar where the owner makes every body feel welcome, connect and taste his excellent home made limoncello like raki. There is free parking and the beach, the bars and restaurants are at 10 min walking distance.
Very tidy, nice and well equipped apartment in the middle of Matala and just a few steps from the beach. The roof garden is awesome with great view over the bay and to the famous caves. We always sat there for breakfast. The owner was very kind and always helpful and supportive!
I booked this hotel because was very close to the caves of Matala. I loved the view of the mountain from my window and definitely recommend this hotel as it looks the best at walking distance from the beach and the caves. Lovely breakfast, clean rooms and helpful staff.
I like most of the things, the host was great, the bed was wonderful, even small things like plates glasses and other things was in the room. The location of staying was perfect, not far away from one of the coolest towns and beaches. Awesome for short term staying
This place is in the middle of everything, and the most important .. in front of the beach!
The place is clean, modern and beautiful. The sunset view from the balcony is breath taking. You can go down the stairs and be straight at the beach, i love it!
Very easy to collect the key from nearby café. Worth the money modest room with small kitchen (glasses, kettle, etc). Very pleasant to have a compliment - raki, apples & litre of retsina! Beach in 1 minute - the middle of Matala!
Thank you!
It is a family run hotel, a 20-minute walk from Matala beach. The accommodation had 2 rooms. cramped with beds and other furniture. It had a slight 1980's feel to it. There is a pool as well as an adjacent breakfast/dinner covered space.
A dreamy property in a dreamy village! wish we could’ve stayed longer - the place is fantastic, walking distance to Matala beach and the town centre but still secluded enough to make you feel completely relaxed and away from everything.
The whole Matala beach is amazing, one of the best in Crete. And with the nice accomodation just a few steps from the beach, tavernas, shops makes the it unforgetable holiday. We miss Matala spirit!
Nice hotel in front of Matala beach, 3 mins walk from the center of town.
Rooms basic, clean and comfortable with air con.
Breakfast was plentiful. Pleasant staff. Overall good value for menu.
Wonderful hosts and amazing location. The room was clean and the family running the hotel were super welcoming and attentive. The pool was an extra bonus.
