Door wllGpo0vK9Jo op 30-06-2013 @ 10:08I owned a Sonata 4 years ago and it took off on its own also. I put the engine into ntrauel and it "screamed' but wouldn't stop. I had 911 on the cell phone of a passenger telling them the engine won't stop "screaming" and the car wouldn't stop. I turned the engine off twice and it wouldn't go off. My car struck the car in front and the engine continued to whine. The driver I struck heard the engine kept his foot on his brakes to try to stop me from pushing him. On the 3rd try my engine turned off. Hyundai had their specialists come down from Michigan and tore the engine apart. They found FIVE failures in the engine that could have caused this. Hyundai then gave me a new car, no out of pocket expense for me. Six months later my husband was driving this new car and it took off on its own coming up our driveway. The garage stopped the car but the familiar "scream" of the engine was heard loud and clear.Neither the dealer or Hyundai would listen to us this time and we bought a new car as neither of us would go back into this car. Since then, I have heard of 2 other people that this has happened to.
